Brand Systems / Digital Identity / Portfolio Architecture

Raul Mermans Portfolio

A personal brand system for strategy, AI/product case studies, photography, and visual experimentation.

This portfolio was built as a digital identity system: a structured environment for presenting brand strategy, cultural storytelling, AI/product work, photography, and visual experimentation through an editorial lens.

Business Context

The workflow problem behind the project

A multidisciplinary offer can become difficult to evaluate when brand, technical work, visuals, and product thinking are presented as separate fragments. This project explores how a portfolio can operate as a coherent commercial system rather than a static resume.

System / Solution

How the workflow is bounded

The site organizes identity, case studies, service language, visual archives, and GitHub transparency into a repeatable content architecture. The system uses restrained UX, consistent navigation, and modular case-study patterns so future AI systems, brand work, and prototypes can be added without breaking the positioning.

Inputs

Service positioning, case-study proof, visual work, photography, GitHub links, and contact intent.

Workflow

Orient the visitor, show proof, group work by category, deepen through case studies, and route qualified briefs to contact.

Processing logic

Information architecture and content hierarchy decide what the visitor sees first and how proof is framed.

Output

A live portfolio system with commercial positioning, case-study pages, visual archive, and project brief path.

Guardrails

Minimal visual language, consistent CTA logic, and public-safe technical transparency preserve credibility.

Challenge

A multidisciplinary profile can easily become fragmented.

The work spans brand strategy, cultural storytelling, AI/product systems, photography, and visual experiments. The challenge was not to list projects, but to create a coherent world around strategy, taste, visual direction, and technical execution.

Translate many disciplines into one recognizable identity.

Make case studies feel strategic, visual, and editorial rather than like resume cards.

Create a structure that can scale with future AI systems, campaigns, brand work, and photography.

Design intent

The site behaves like an archive with editorial pacing.

The visual system uses restraint as a signal. Strong whitespace, image-led storytelling, typography hierarchy, and controlled motion create a rhythm where taste is visible through pacing, not decoration.

Editorial rhythm

Sections are paced as frames: entry, orientation, selection, immersion, and proof.

Case-study-first navigation

The site directs attention toward selected proof rather than a generic portfolio grid.

Atmosphere with structure

Photography and visuals add texture while the information architecture keeps the experience legible.

Restraint over ornament

Whitespace, alignment, and type scale carry more of the identity than decorative effects.

Information architecture

A portfolio system, not a static resume.

The website is organized as a set of layers that each answer a different question for the visitor.

Wireframe logic

The sequence controls pacing instead of filling space.

The site is organized as a sequence of editorial frames: entry, orientation, selection, immersion, and proof. Each section has a job in the visitor journey.

Visual + technical system

Taste is made visible through hierarchy, spacing, and repeatable rules.

Visual system

  • Typography hierarchy with large editorial titles and quieter supporting copy.
  • Neutral palette that lets imagery, spacing, and content carry the mood.
  • Controlled motion that supports attention rather than performing for its own sake.
  • Grid logic and modular blocks for future case studies and experiments.

Technical system

  • Next.js and TypeScript foundation.
  • Static export for IONOS hosting.
  • GitHub Actions deployment by SFTP.
  • Public GitHub repository for technical transparency.
  • Public-readiness discipline around secrets, docs, and deployment files.

Outcome

A scalable identity system for future work.

The result is a coherent home for future case studies, a clearer creative position, and a stronger bridge between brand strategy and AI/product execution.

A scalable home for AI systems, campaigns, brand work, and photography.

Cleaner positioning around strategy, taste, and applied technical execution.

A public repository that makes the build transparent without turning the case study into a code walkthrough.

A flexible archive for visuals, photography, and ongoing experiments.

Why It Matters

Reliability beats novelty

The same system logic applies to client-facing brand and product surfaces: define the workflow, structure the proof, control the narrative, and make the next action clear. The value is not decoration; it is commercial clarity made usable.

Client Relevance

Where this becomes useful

A similar system could help founders, brands, agencies, or internal teams turn scattered capabilities, prototypes, and strategic work into a coherent digital surface that supports evaluation and next-step decisions.
